It has been a slow start to conference play for the men of IVC Baseball. As the first two games series with each team concludes, IVC is picking up momentum at the right time. On Saturday, IVC won a tight, one run ball game on the road at San Diego Mesa College. The offense was led by Xhavier Caravetta three hit game while Sebastian Fuchen and Brian Martin both collected two hits in the contest. IVC was down for almost the entire game before putting up three runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a one run lead. Shortstop Roberto Gonzalez came in for the win, slamming the door, pitching the last 1.2 innings and striking out 3 of the 7 batters he faced. This win is all the more impressive after IVC dropped a lopsided game at home to the same SD Mesa team 26-3 just two days prior.
Coming off the first conference win of the year IVC was back in action on Tuesday, March 22nd to face San Diego City at home. This game was all Imperial as IVC jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 5 complete innings. A 4 run bottom of the 7th inning helped secure the lead. San Diego City fought back with their own 4 run inning to tie the game in the top of the 9th. This led to a dramatic walk off win as Tristan Garbutt singled and Erik Garcia scored the winning run. Pitching was the name of the game for Imperial on this day as starter Isaac Martinez threw 5.2 stellar innings giving up only two runs and putting IVC in a position to win.
Imperial Baseball looks to ride this momentum into an away game at San Diego City College on March 24th. After the next game at SD City on 3/24, Baseball will have one, three game series with each of the five PCAC teams to conclude the regular season.
