Softball players Priscilla Silva of Imperial Valley College and Cassie Van Til from Southwestern have been selected as Pacific Coast Conference Women's Athletes of the Week for January 29th through February 4th.
Silva, a freshman catcher/third baseman from Imperial High School, has been a major reason coach Jill Lerno's Arabs have jumped out to a 7-1 start, losing only to traditional state power Santiago Canyon.
Silva is hitting .577 and in recent performances went 7-for-9 with 5 RBIs, 4 doubles, a sacrifice bunt and 5 runs scored in 24-0 and 22-0 run-rule victories over Victor Valley, went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI in a 3-1 win over San Diego Mesa, and was 2-for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored in a 10-0 run-rule victory over Santa Barbara City College.
Van Til, a freshman outfielder out of Patrick Henry High School in San Diego, went 2-for-3 with a triple, RBI, stolen base a run scored as the Jaguars opened their home season by beating Orange Coast 6-1.
She came back in by going 1-for-2 and scoring a run as Southwestern won 2-1 to complete a sweep of the Pirates.
